- “The Mandalorian” and “Lovecraft Country” were big favorites for Emmy nominations, with 24 and 18 nominations respectively. “black-ish” and “A Black Lady Sketch Show” both received five nominations. Other nominees include “Bridgerton,” “Hamilton,” “WandaVision” and more. The 73rd Emmy awards, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, premiers Sun., Sept. 19, at the Microsoft Theater in LA.
- Candace Parker is set to appear on the cover of “NBA 2k22,” which will be released on Sept. 10. According to her Twitter, she is “extremely proud and humble to be the first female cover athlete in the history of NBA 2K. [She is] honored to work with a company that is investing in women and betting on us to succeed. [And she’s] hopeful there will be many more badass females to follow.”
- Rapper and producer T-Pain was trending over the weekend as he expressed his frustration with the current standard of “originality” in the music industry. Overheard on Twitch, T-Pain argues “you know when your ‘ish’ sounds like somebody else’s ‘ish.’ You are making it because you think you are in the studio. ‘What’s the number one record now? We need to make another one of those.’ Stop doing that! STOP! You’re not original. Give me something ‘original-ish.’” In contrast, T-Pain gives some credit to young artists such as Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Baby and DaBaby for their contributions.
