Disney Prepares To Make Film Of Children’s Classic

Wrinkle In Time Disney

The beloved children’s author, Madeleine L’Engle, resisted numerous offers during her lifetime to make a film of her Newberry Award winning book, A Wrinkle In Time. Happily, Disney appears to have secured permission from her estate.

Oprah Winfrey is in final negotiations to play a leading role, Mrs. Which. Ava DuVernay, who previously worked with Winfrey on Selma and the upcoming drama Queen Sugar(September 6 on OWN) is slated to direct. The script is by Frozen writer and co-director, Jennifer Lee.

A Wrinkle in Time is about a young girl whose scientist father disappears into the vastness of the universe. Her brother and a friend join her in seeking him out with the help of three supernatural beings. Much like C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy, the book employs sci-fi elements and classical mythology in rendering the girl’s quest–one with deep Christian themes.
