Ja Rule Won’t Get the Funding for His Fyre Festival 2.0

Ja Rule won’t get the money together for his post-Fyre plans to put on another music festival, according to Calvin Wells, the venture capitalist who created the Fyre Fraud Twitter account and was featured in the Netflix and Hulu Fyre Festival documentaries.

“He won’t be able to [fundraise] for it and doesn’t have enough money to do it personally,” Wells told Bold TV, reacting to Ja Rule’s recent statement to TMZ that the rapper has “plans to create the iconic music festival.”

This comes after the infamous failure of Fyre Festival, a music festival that Ja Rule created with Billy McFarland, which recently re-entered the cultural conversation after two dueling documentaries aired exposing the festival’s 2016 lead up and subsequent 2017 failure.

While Ja Rule has said on Twitter that he too “was hoodwinked,” Wells said he thinks Ja Rule was “intimately aware of everything” and should be in jail along with McFarland (who is currently serving a six-year sentence).

Ja Rule’s comments about a new possible endeavor hinted that his music festival would be tied to his new talent booking app, Iconn, which critics say is just a rebranded version of the original Fyre app.

On Bold TV, Wells scoffed at the Iconn app and said, “I think it’s indicative of…how sociopathic these guys are that somehow we’re gonna reinvent the exact same thing using the same technology and we’re not even going to worry about the fact that it has all this negative connotation attached to it.”

“No one wants to book Ja Rule anyway,” Wells continued. “I actually tried to book him for my own birthday party. I thought it was going to be funny…on his app, so I’ll let you know if he ends up accepting or not.”
