Is President Donald Trump “guilty until proven innocent” in the media? Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett says no. Watch here or on our Facebook page.

Rep. Plaskett joined Bold TV today to give us her thoughts on the Russia investigation, Donald Trump Jr. and the importance of the press.

The Congresswoman is a Democratic representative for the Virgin Islands and serves on the House Oversight Committee. She joined us a few weeks ago to discuss the Comey testimony and FBI Director nominee Christopher Wray, who she worked with at the Justice Department.

Today, Rep. Plaskett spoke about this week’s controversy surrounding Donald Trump Jr. and said that the Trump Administration’s reactions have been confusing and contradicting. She praised the press for their investigative work, saying reporters have uncovered essential information that wouldn’t have been found otherwise.

Host Carrie Sheffield said it seems Trump is being “tried by the press.” She said reporters and pundits have been using “treason,” “impeachment” and other legal terms “without really understanding what they mean.”

Rep. Plaskett disagreed and added:

“The purpose the media has served is of course being the the fourth pillar, the truth checker, and that’s in fact what they’re doing. They keep us, elected officials, honest and I’m hopeful they can be objective.”

The Congresswoman said she’s not ready to push for impeachment, but is very, very troubled by the actions of Trump and his administration.

We also discussed Rep. Plaskett’s recent op-ed in The Hill discussing disenfranchisement in the Virgin Islands. Bold TV is planning a trip down to the Virgin Islands soon to visit Rep. Plaskett — we’re so excited! Stay tuned for more details on that in the coming weeks!
