Did Rihanna’s New York Fashion Week Show Set The Stage For Diversity?

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) has come to an end and this season’s lineup of shows had many inclusive moments but we have to ask, is it enough? Guests, Melissa Minton, Danielle James and Jamé Jackson sat down with our host, Diana Falzone, to cover which moments from the week stood out to them.

One of the biggest highlights was Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty lingerie show, which closed NYFW and made headlines for its diversity of models. There was a range of ethnicity and body types, including two pregnant models. “We’re really taking back ownership and autonomy over our bodies,” Jackson said. “It’s just beautiful to see dope women walking down the runway, proud of who they are and unapologetic.”

Despite the many inclusive moments at New York Fashion Week, James asks for more diversity. James, who was backstage at Rihanna’s show, said, “It shouldn’t just be Becca from Chromat and Rihanna that are really showcasing this…I’m looking forward to the day where having a plus-size model in your show is not a headline.”
