“There are hundreds of thousands of children in Yemen who will die in the next couple months if we don’t do anything,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) told Bold TV. “There is a famine that could threaten 14 million people. Some things are about politics, this really is not. This is about basic humanity.”
Khanna expressed disappointment with House Republicans, claiming that they did not allow a “clean vote,” instead adding a line that blocked the Democrats from forcing a vote on the resolution into an unrelated bill about wolves. Khanna said he was still confident about the possibility of a ceasefire at the time of the Bold TV interview because the Senate had taken up a similar resolution.
Since Khanna’s interview with Bold TV, the U.S. Senate passed the bill to end U.S. military assistance for Saudi Arabia in Yemen. This was a bipartisan decision by the Senate, passing 56 to 41, but the House is unlikely to vote on the resolution until the new Congressional session begins in January.
