Top 3 Tips for Executives

Executives seem like they have all the answers. I mean, how else did they get where they are? Executives aren’t normal people, which is usually the reason for their success but also could be their downfall. So, Bold TV’s Executive Director, David Grasso, shared his tips for sustaining a successful business.

3 quick tips for executives

  1. Leverage media. Local news outlets rely on local businesses for stories and for expert opinions, and media appearances give you and your company legitimacy and credibility. The more helpful you can be for a local media outlet, the more they will ask you back. Local coverage leads to national coverage, and before you know it, you could be trending.
  2. Diversity. It isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a necessity. And, it isn’t just race and gender, it’s religion, politics, geography, income and education as well. Diversity internally will reflect the diversity in the clients and customers you can reach. You can lean on your diverse staff to make decisions and avoid marketing faux pas.
  3. Recognize you’re out of touch. Leading a business is hard work and doesn’t usually give you much time to know what the newest technology or latest trends are. The sooner you admit that things have changed, the sooner you can catch up.

Rely on your staff

Above all, Grasso recommends that executives rely on their staff. You can’t do everything on your own, and if you have a group of people that you trust working with you then you have to use them. Your staff can keep you up-to-date on the latest trends when you fall out of touch, They can help you navigate a professional response to social issues, and even help you pitch the right topic to media outlets. And remember that media also can be for internal use. Record yourself describing your goals and values, and your staff will respond to your leadership.
