Black Friday without a doubt will be much different this year. No crowds huddled around Walmart, no one getting trampled at the door and no fistfights over TVs. For those who look forward to going straight from the Thanksgiving dinner table to waiting online outside your favorite store, this may be a bummer. For the workers who have to pull 12-hour shifts from the wee hours of the morning, this is a relief. Some, like Walmart employees, are even getting bonuses this year!
For people like me, who prefer filling up a cart online, this could be our year. Online shopping has surged in 2020 for obvious reasons, and because of this, we could be getting even better virtual deals than in previous years. Here are a couple of things I have my eye on!
Black Friday purchase guide
- Apple AirPods at Walmart. I already have AirPods, and I paid full price for them 😥 . For Black Friday, Walmart is dropping the price of the AirPod Pros from $249 to $169! This sale starts Nov. 25, and who knows how many supplies they have, so set your alarms and be ready! I may even get myself a backup pair.
- 50% off at Gap. If you’re like me, and you can’t stop buying clothes even though you’re not going anywhere, then you should check out the Gap’s website from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1. They are serving 50% off of everything site-wide! Gap is a reliable brand, and I’m sure anyone can find something to stuff a stocking and their closet.
- Local booksellers. Books are a great gift for everyone on your list, plus you know that one of your New Year’s Resolutions is going to be to read more! 🤓 Not to disparage Amazon, but it is important to support your local economy, so if you’re going to buy a book, buy local. The website Bookshop.org even makes it easy to find a place near you and have them deliver directly to your door. Plus, bookstores will have great deals on new and secondhand items!
- Best Buy for your gadgets! I’m not being paid by Best Buy I promise, but I do have to say that they are my go-to for big electronics purchases this time of year. They have televisions, speakers, laptops, Apple products, phones, gaming consoles, and games all with huge discounts. I’m sure Walmart and Amazon have good stuff, too, but as a biased article writer, I’m definitely going to be staking out Best Buy’s website for a new 4K TV.
Why buy Black Friday?
Of course, this sale is a money grab, but I like to think of it this way: I’m going to buy anyway, might as well be at the best price I can get. There are other times of the year when prices drop, but it just isn’t as much fun. It can also put you into the holiday mood, which frankly we need this year. Of course, buying also stimulates the economy, so I’m going to do my part and spend more money than necessary, help keep some big and small businesses alive and workers in jobs.
