“People don’t realize how serious fashion is,” said celebrity stylist Derek Warburton. Warburton joined Bold Life to give his insights on New York Fashion Week and discuss how some people might see the event as elitist or inaccessible from their everyday lives.
“It’s the future,” Warburton said, pointing to how fashion can affect film, music and even how people think. He and host Diana Falzone discussed how women in history have used fashion to gain power — like the rebellious symbol of the miniskirt in the ’60s.
Warburton, who is the co-founder and creative director of Lapalme Magazine, also said trends like the rise of body positivity show the fashion industry and fashion week are becoming more accessible to all consumers.
“For years, women didn’t have choices and sizes. And now that’s changing,” he said.
