Here’s How to Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions

It’s that time of year! 2020 is coming to a close, and, like every year, we go through the same process of making New Year’s resolutions. However, many times when we evaluate what goals we have set for ourselves in the previous year, we find that we have fallen short. Some of those goals might have been to lose weight, work out, eat healthier, learn something new or start a new business. If any of these ring a bell, join Bold TV’s host Philip Michael as he talks with Jeff Brandeis about how to keep your New Year’s resolutions in 2021.

Write. It. Down.

You should list your long-term and short-term goals. Having a big, long-term goal is great, but it can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t know how to get there. That’s why it is important to also write down smaller and easier short-term goals that inevitably would bring you to that long-term achievement. 

Hold yourself accountable

One of the issues and mistakes that people make is to make their resolutions in their mind. It’s very easy to think of something in your head, but it’s also very easy to forget about it the next day. That’s why writing everything down is very important. When you write it down, it becomes a physical reality instead of just a thought. In addition, studies have shown that people who write down their goals are more likely to achieve them. 

Think positive

It’s also important to have a positive mindset when pursuing your endeavors so you don’t quit so easily. Having a coach, mentor, friend or manager can help very much with this. By having other people holding you accountable, you force yourself to be productive and persistent. A great way you can accomplish this is by making a self bet. Go to a friend and say to them I have this goal, and if I don’t complete it by this time then I’ll pay you $100 or however much you prefer. But, you want to bet an amount that you would be nervous to lose in order to push yourself to accomplish the goal.  

Organize by priority

Jeff recommends to people that you create a plan. Every night or morning, write a list of what you want to accomplish the next day. List them by A, B, C. A being most important, B being in the middle and C being not important at the moment. In order not to overwhelm yourself, have your list be only a page long and hide your C list in your draw until you get to it. Another way is to write them down on sticky notes and put them everywhere on your desk.
