Are you happy with your current job? According to a world poll conducted by Gallup, 15% of the world’s workforce and 30% of the American workforce say that they felt engaged at work. That still leaves 85% and 70% percent respectively saying that they do not feel engaged.
It’s staggering to think that so many people feel this way. The average person will spend around 90,000 hours at work in the course of a lifetime; that’s a long time not to be happy. Philip Michael spoke with life coach Nikole Mitchell about making the pivot in your life to invest in yourself and your dream job.
Why do people stay at a job they don’t like?
People stay stagnant in the same place because they believe that it’s too late or that there is nothing better out there. This idea affects people’s pursuit of their dream job, relationship and more. But Mitchell encourages people that if you believe and desire something, then it exists. And if it exists, that means it’s real. You’re not insane for wanting to pursue something real. By having a closed mindset, you are inherently blocking out all the opportunities that are just waiting for you to pursue them.
It’s all about the mindset
Start to identify yourself as a person who is already at the place where they want to be. Once you make that transition in your mind, you’ll start to notice opportunities that you didn’t know existed. Maybe you overhear a conversation, see a social media post, meet someone on a plane or have a friend of a friend working where you want to work. Your dream job will start seeking you out.
Like most things in life, it’s easier said than done. But the key to achieving success and your goals is the mindset. Watch the interview for more inspiration!
