“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” With this snack’s different flavors and combinations, it’s hard not to love it. Another amazing feeling is running a successful business. If you combine the two, it’s a euphoric enterprise. And Trishonna Helm did just that! She started with one ice cream business (Mixins Rolled Ice Cream) in her home state of Nebraska and now has branched out to many successful stores. To celebrate International Women’s Day, Helm shares how to build a successful business.
Starting with “Google University”
When Helm first ventured into the business world, she had no idea where to start. She quickly realized that with any start-up, you need money. But where do you find investors? She recommends “Google University.”
Some people don’t realize that all the answers to their questions are literally in the palm of their hands. Google and other search engines are such powerful tools to start a business. If you don’t know something, look it up. Helm searched how to find a business loan, which led her to a micro-lender. This result led her to the question of how to find a micro-lender in her state. Helm would type into Google as if she was having a conversation with a real person. The millions of results can be overwhelming, but Google is your friend. It could be the difference between success and failure.
Wise advice for a successful brand
Helm recommends that your business have a specific niche. Don’t be a one-stop place that sells everything. Be specific, and brand your business very well. Instead of being average at a few things, become extraordinary at one thing. When you are one-of-a-kind, customers are forced to go to you for your product or service.
Also, never take no for an answer. If someone says, “No,” find someone else that will say, “Yes.” Just keep going, and never give up.
