How to Reinvent Yourself and Your Business

In a fast-paced world of instant gratification and waning attention spans, we are faced with the challenge of staying relevant. Joe Jackman, CEO of Jackman Reinvents and author of The Reinventionst Mindset, guides businesses in “learning to love the change and the human how of doing it brilliantly.” As someone who has worked on the transformation of around 40 companies, including Duane Reade, Walgreens, Hertz, JCPenney and Dave & Buster’s, Jackman says to Bold TV that the alternative to change is irrelevance.

How To Reinvent Yourself In The World of Business

For companies to thrive through this pressure, he created the term “reinventionist” and got to work. Reinvention is about the art and science of making change possible. When he begins a project, he looks at the “DNA of a business” and asks the important question, “When this company was created, what was it that made it great and special in the first place?” Jackman believes that the foundational beliefs of a company do not lose their effectiveness; it is the manifestation of those beliefs that tends to go out of fashion. The main risk of a company is not the unknown of the future, but the stagnancy of the present.

Changing With The World Around You

Jackman takes a look at what aspects are working and what pressures and disruptions are present in the specific market. It is also important for the entire company to buy into the vision of the future and embrace the concept of change. Jackman’s book gives practical, real-life stories of eight companies he reinvented. Six of these companies were very successful and the details of why the other two failed. In order to reinvent yourself, however, the beginning of the process is to gain perspective. “It’s fundamental that we stop looking at change as a bad thing and reposition it in our minds as a good thing.”
