Chinese Healing in the Western World

With the Chinese New Year comes celebrations and festivals and new beginnings, and it also brings opportunities for better health. Tsao-Lin Moy, founder of Integrative Healing Arts, says that stress is the underlying cause for many chronic illnesses, but her Chinese medicine techniques are meant to combat stress and the problems it may cause. Cameron and Maria both tried Moy’s acupuncture techniques on last week’s episode of BoldTV.

How Can We Use Chinese Healing Techniques?

“Stress is the underlying cause for many chronic illnesses, and it comes in different forms,” Moy said. “Once [a stress] event has happened, the body releases different chemicals, and those continue to bathe the cells.” She says that as stressful situations occur, the stress is compounded and continues its negative effect on the body. This may include lack of sleep, digestive issues, and tight neck and shoulders. Acupuncture is a Chinese medicine technique to treat the body, including ailments caused by stress. Moy says that the ear is the gate of the spirit, the microcosm of the body, and the connection to the nervous system. She uses needles placed in strategic parts of the ear, depending on a person’s issue. She says that acupuncture brings calm.

Acupuncture and Ear Seeds

An alternative to acupuncture is the use of ear seeds from the Vaccaria plant. You place Ear Seeds strategically on the ear and apply pressure to a specific point. You can pinch these throughout the day to apply pressure when you need extra calming for anxiety. After the show, Moy gave ear seeds to some of the interns, and every time, she would point out how the face relaxes immediately after she pinches the seed. Moy is all about sharing her love for Chinese medicine and helping others. Chinese medicine can help you if you struggle with common issues such as stress, burnout, digestion or sleep.
