The Staff of the Nevada Democratic Party Has Quit. What Was Their Message?

Nothing sends a message quite like the entire staff of the Nevada Democratic Party quitting at the same time. What was their intention? According to The Intercept, the staff wasn’t supportive of the major takeover by progressives. Five party leadership roles were filled by candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America.

“What they just didn’t expect is that we got better and better at organizing and out-organizing them at every turn,” the party’s new chair Judith Whitmer told The Intercept

In Nevada, they refer to this schism as the new progressive wing vs. the Reid Machine. Nevada’s Harry Reid is a former Senate majority leader. In 2016, Reid supported Hillary Clinton in her primary run against Sen. Bernie Sanders; over the next four years, after much hard work and dedication by the progressives, Sanders won Nevada’s vote. Now, the Reid Machine is no longer running the show.

Factions have broken out in the Left. After Sanders’ run, this theme drove Nevada’s Democratic Party to run as the “Progressive Unity Slate,” promoting that the progressives were dividing the blue party.

But Ryan Adams, the co-founder of political strategy agency HZQ Consulting, told Bold TV that this is telling that the Democratic Party is simply losing its majority support among liberals.

“In the future, we will keep seeing organizations like the Democratic Socialists of America (rightfully) grow in power where the traditional establishment has failed to build a power base,” Adams said.

The Left has a wide range of thought and strategy. On the one hand, Adams says that these progressives feel almost abandoned by the system. On the other hand, he recognizes that we should understand the perspective of the establishment

“[The Democratic Party] believes in this system, and they feel that they are constantly maligned by folks on social media for doing a job that they believe is the right thing to do,” Adams said.

Will this event in Nevada create a chain reaction of events in other local, state and federal offices? Is it a sign that progressives are gaining traction in the Democratic Party? And will the younger generations be the deciding factor?

“Young people will go where ever they believe their voice will not just be heard, but listened to and respected,” Adams said. “That’s the lesson to take away from all this.”
