Disney adults with cash to spare and an interest in digital collectibles are in luck! You can start your own Disney NFT collection with VeVe. In honor of Disney+ Day, the third-anniversary celebration of the streaming platform, purchasers also get a three-month Disney+ subscription.
Disney NFT collection and Disney+ Day
The promotion by Disney to include a free subscription to Disney+ comes at a somewhat dire time for NFTs. The daily trade volume for non-fungible tokens on OpenSea, the world’s biggest digital collectible platform, is down 99%.
However, this year, the company dropped exclusive Marvel NFTs to celebrate the comic book company’s 83rd anniversary. Collectors can get their hands on one of three Doctor Octopus variants in mystery blind boxes. Though, Doc Oc isn’t the only Spidey nemesis featured in the collection. VeVe also released digital collectible variant covers for Amazing Spider-Man #300 featuring the alien symbiote, Venom.
A digital collectible version of Amazing Fantasy #15, the web-slinger’s first appearance, is also available. In 2021, it became the most expensive comic ever sold when a physical copy sold at auction for $3.6 million. The digital release features five variant covers, each with different rarities. Though, Peter Parker isn’t the only Spider-Man out there. VeVe offered a one-of-one Miles Morales variant cover ink by co-creator Sara Pichelli in a silent auction on August 12.
The VeVe Disney NFT collection includes art featuring other Marvel heroes, such as Black Panther, among other Disney properties.
A new Disney membership program is in the works
Amid the promotional deal between VeVe and Disney+, Disney is also exploring a new membership program similar to Amazon Prime. There aren’t many details on the membership program as of yet. What is known, though, is that it targets Disney fanatics who spend money across the company’s various ventures. The membership should include deals for the Disney+ streaming service, theme parks worldwide, and merchandise.
