Are you contemplating the idea of quitting your job for the sake of chasing your dreams? Online boutique “Re-Fabbed” CEO and founder, Brooke Riley, was in your shoes six years ago when she finally said “enough is enough” to her well-paying job at a local electric billing company. After spending most of her 20s suffering from immense stress and a stroke that almost cost her life, she found the courage to quit—choosing instead to forge a successful career. Once she figured out how to monetize a blog, the rest was history.
Passion meeting purpose
Forbes recently added Riley to their “Next 1000” upstart entrepreneurs list. She didn’t think this achievement was possible six years ago, but it’s proof of her hard work and dedication to the things she loves most: decorating, DIY and writing. Bringing these three elements together provided her with a breakthrough—a mind-shift if you will—that changed the course of her life.
Patience is key!
There’s no easy way to monetize a blog. Riley made her first post in May of 2015, making no profit for that entire year. In fact, it wasn’t until three years later—with a slow accumulation of the pennies adding up—that real profit was starting to show. $10 soon turned into $10,000. The constant push to make content, the effort to interact with her community and the commitment she displayed played a large part in her success. And it all allowed her to push further and to dream bigger. Continuing down the path of success, she started Re-Fabbed Boutique, which has now turned into a seven-figure online business.
