Washington Update: What Black Women Want for Their Vote

The Congressional Black Caucus (aka the Who’s Who of Black Leaders in politics and public policy) converged in Washington D.C. from September 14 to September 18, for policy talk, networking, and dinner parties.

Between Colin Kaepernick’s protest picking up steam among athletes of all ages and videos of interactions between citizens and law enforcement, the biggest topic on the agenda was our criminal justice system. We also discussed education and economic empowerment.

With the 2016 election around the corner, what issues are top of mind for black voters – especially black females? Power of the Sister Vote policy forum aims to tackle those issues.

If we look at where the black community stands today compared to before President Barack Obama took office, the situation has improved for some, but not enough for too many in our community.

Have Washington’s policies worked or let down the black community? What are the policies that empower communities of color?
