During these uncertain times, how do we make sure we have a steady cash flow coming in? How can entrepreneurs and creatives make money at home? It’s not easy, but it’s not impossible. During times where the money isn’t certain, we all need to have another source of income in order to survive. Oni Higgins spoke with Vivana Puello, an art business expert about turning hobbies into side hustles.
Do what you love
Puello started her career as an independent artist. After realizing that she had a passion for marketing and advertising, she created ArtTour International. This platform originally started out as a magazine that highlighted artists and their work. Ten years later, ArtTour International started the ArtTour International TV Show, a showcase of artists around the globe.
Puello says creation begins in times of need. For those of you who don’t have a hobby, now is the perfect time to figure out what you enjoy doing. Once you figure that out, create a strategy that will help you monetize it. How will you market the product? Where will you market it? How are you going to price it? If you have multiple hobbies, that’s great, but Puello suggests people should limit themselves to one specific thing.
Be proactive
It’s difficult to be proactive when you’re not comfortable with the position you’re currently in. However, use that energy to fuel you! Puello suggests going after clients. Write down a list of potential clients, starting with the people you know. Then start thinking about their friends and write down who may be interested. Once it’s time to begin selling your services, don’t be afraid to reach out. Scared money doesn’t make any money!
