Here at Bold, we love hearing and watching stories about strong women. The entertainment industry has been showcasing a lot of strong, female casts. Here’s our list of four shows featuring strong, female leads that you should watch if you haven’t already.
Based on the romance novels by Julia Quinn, Shonda Rhimes and Netflix teamed up to bring “Bridgertons” to television. The show takes place during the Regency era in England where young girls are feeling the societal pressure to find a suitor. In this modern take, the women are attempting to break out of the normal gender roles. A while back, Bold Life spoke to Julia Quinn about her series being adapted into television.
This STARZ drama series revolves around a stripclub in Mississippi. One of the great things about this show is that it was created by Katori Hall, a woman. Hall humanizes the strippers through the female gaze and their individual storylines, which is refreshing. The “P-Valley” women are not only physically strong; they’re mentally strong, too. 3. Queen’s Gambit
This series takes place in the 1950s and follows Beth Harmon, an orphan struggling with addiction. Despite her struggles, she wants to become the best chess player. The show highlights her imperfections and shows the audience how Beth uses it to her advantage.
We all remember the “Watchmen” movie that came out in 2009, but the series on HBO Max is a must watch. Regina George plays an ex-police officer turned vigilante who goes by the name Sister Night. Instead of donning skirts, high-heeled boots and a face full of makeup, Sister Night wears a mask, paints her eyes black and wears a hooded coat. There’s something refreshing about watching a woman vigilante fight in casual clothes.
