To Share or Not to Share on Social Media

Maybe that tweet should not have been sent out at that moment, or that picture you posted should not be up on Instagram. Whatever you posted in the heat of the moment, you should always remember that it lasts forever on the internet. Remember when Kevin Hart was called out and forced to step down from being the host of the Oscars in 2018 after some inappropriate tweets resurfaced? Host Philip Michael shares what he chooses to post on social media and why you might want to follow his rules.

Add value to social media

Hart’s situation is just one of several examples that remind you to be very mindful of what you post. This isn’t just to cover your butt in certain situations, but it also helps you stay authentic with your brand. Be relatable as much as possible when on social media because what you post is adding not only value to your page but also value to others who go to your page to escape their reality. When posting to his social media, Michael always thinks about being as authentic as possible. He doesn’t try to show off how intelligent he is or try to make it seem like he is better than everyone else. Michael tries to convey whatever is going on in his head and hopes that his followers can get that message. According to Michael: seek value first, second and third, and with that, you engage your audience and create a safe environment.

Keep it neutral

Lastly, when posting to social media, keep it neutral. Don’t make it seem like you are taking sides because that can and will bite you in the butt if you don’t do it correctly. Also, be mindful and stay clear of religion and politics because we are human beings at the end of the day. People have different backgrounds that might stir up some stuff that you don’t want on your feed. So, on that note, be mindful of what you post!
