Liz Matory is running for Congress in Maryland’s 7th District. She talks to Bold TV about her campaign and how she is the right candidate for office. She is running for the seat left open after Rep. Cummings passed away. This is her third time running for office, and older members of Congress have told her that she needs to wait her turn.

Matory is Done Waiting for Her Turn

Older generations have been leading on Liz Matory for quite some time, telling her that she is not old enough to hold the position, despite being almost 40 years old. She wishes to represent millennials and push the envelope in politics. There is a huge deficit of women representing Republicans, and she wants to be a symbol of empowerment. Women, especially black women, are continually underrepresented by both political parties, and each year they are looked on for a 9 percent boost in the polls.

How Can We Empower More Women to Be Republicans?

By empowering more women to be Republicans, she can be a disruptor in politics. Matory believes that women cannot latch onto a specific party because there are not enough people holding office that represent their core values. Matory not only looks to women and the black population to make a change but millennials as well. Millennials have disrupted many industries by developing new technology and ideas, but they have yet to majorly disrupt politics. In this day and age, disruption is necessary to get rid of out-dated and ineffective policies. By encouraging people to step up and make bold moves in politics, she believes she can affect the change desperately needed in Baltimore. This is the third generation of poverty in Baltimore, and it also has a slew of economic and social issues that continue to go unsolved by the current regime.
