From Activewear to DNA — The North Face Founder Talks Venturing Into DNA Testing

The North Face is a wildly popular clothing line and has grown to major levels of success. Hap Klopp visits the Bold TV Studio and he is the original President and founder of The North Face. He is also a board member of another company called Reviv, which is a wellness company that uses DNA studies to give you a personalized experience. He discusses his time with The North Face and his upcoming plans with Reviv. He not only found major success in the world of business, but he did so with a disruptive mindset.

The Disruptive Mindset Of The North Face

Everyone is familiar with The North Face. Their jackets and accessories have provided many people with the opportunity to go out in nature with comfortable clothing. Klopp started The North Face while he was coming out of college at Stanford. He knew he couldn’t work for someone else after school, so he decided to take on the entrepreneurial journey. Klopp loved the idea of disruption because he didn’t like the status quo of corporate America at the time. He came up at a time when there were a lot of salary discrepancies against women and there was a lot of discrimination against the gay community. He wanted everyone to have the opportunity to succeed. At one point, there were people speaking 14 different languages in his office. He made sure everyone was paid fairly and pushed back against the norms of the time.

Reviv Is Disrupting The Healthcare Industry

Klopp now spends his time on the board for Reviv. He believes that genome-based wellness companies are the future. Healthcare is done retroactively, we react to the conditions we are feeling and not taking preventative measures even though they are much cheaper. Genome testing allows you to know what works best for your health based on your DNA. This allows you to know which foods you should eat and how they will affect your diet as well as IV therapies. Reviv is taking the same disruptive mindset from The North Face and is applying it to the healthcare industry.
