Bold TV caught up with some of the biggest names in the tech and entertainment world at Black Women Talk Tech’s 3rd annual Roadmap to Billions Conference, including Angela Yee from 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club.” Yee spoke with Bold TV about her pressed juice business and what being “bold” means to her: “Bold means to me, bright, vibrant and not afraid.” Yee has owned a juice bar in Brooklyn for a while and is expanding her business to a subscription-based cold pressed juice service.
Yee was one of the many women of color at Black Women Talk Tech’s conference in New York City promoting her entrepreneurial ventures. Black Women Talk Tech (BWTT) is a collective of black women founders with a unique understanding of the challenges women of color face in the tech industry.
Kenya Moore, known for Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” was a keynote speaker and spoke about her creating her haircare line and her production company.
Bold TV spoke with Dr. Mona Lisa Pinkney from Nike about Nike campus’ newest building debuting in late 2019, The Serena Williams Building. “Just thinking about what that means for little black girls growing up who idolize her and can see that you can actually be a positive influence no matter whether or not you’re an athlete or a businessperson — and Serena is both,” Pinkney said.
Pinkey told Bold TV she wants to “give young people the opportunity to realize ‘If I can think about it, if I can dream it, I can actually make it a reality.'”
This idea was on full display through the night’s $100k pitch competition. Women in the competition were able to pitch their businesses to a panel in hopes of winning $100,000 towards their ventures. The People’s Choice winner was Tope Mitchell who won a gift of $30,000 in credits from BWTT sponsor Engineer.ai. Her business, Reflektme, is a service that changes the way customers shop for clothing online. Grand prize winner Simone Spence owns Don’t Get Mad Get Paid, a company that assists women in their child support battles.
This year’s Roadmap To Billions Conference was full of black girl magic and left women inspired, encouraged and ready to change the world!
