You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but have you heard of Small Business Saturday? It brings awareness (and hopefully customers) to smaller businesses. So, ramp up your Christmas shopping by visiting a small business and offering support while also getting a bomb Christmas gift for your loved ones. They may have unique one-of-a-kind items that chain stores don’t carry, or maybe you’d just rather buy from someone local instead of a corporate giant. Here’s why this year is an especially great time to support Small Business Saturday.

Small businesses need our support.

As we all know, the pandemic caused many small businesses to shut down, some temporarily but others for good. In September 2020, Yelp said 163,735 businesses on its website had closed; 98,000 of those closed permanently. We watched some of our favorite businesses go down, and it was hard to watch, which is why small businesses need all the support they can get.

How to support

Good News! An economic report by Yelp said 85% of those businesses that struggled in 2020 are now up and running. How amazing would it be if you give your dollars to some of those businesses that are open again? Most of them didn’t know the day where they could re-open would even come. So, here are some easy ways to support Small Business Saturday:

  1. Visit that local shop you’ve always noticed but have never visited.
  2. Have a small business swap. Tell a friend about your favorite small business and have them tell you theirs.
  3. Order takeout or delivery from a local restaurant
  4. Share, repost, or retweet your favorite business.
  5. Buy a gift card for later or for a Christmas gift.
  6. Tag a friend on a social post by a small business.

I’ll be participating in Support Small Business Saturday; will you? Let us know in the comments below.
