Doctor Mike is a Russian-American celebrity doctor who is well-known for his social media following. Mike is one of the most well-known board-certified physicians in New York City, He was named the 'Sexiest Doctor Alive' in the 2015 'Sexiest Men Alive' issue of 'People' magazine for his remarkable fashion sense and body.
About Dr. Mike Varshavski
Dr. Mikhail Varshavski was born in Russia in 1989 and moved to Brooklyn, New York with his mother and father at six years old. He later graduated magna cum laude from the New York Institute of Technology with a BS in Life Sciences and a medical degree in Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency at Overlook Medical Center through the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
Dr. Mike started getting attention on social media when Buzzfeed published an article about him in 2015 called, “Um, You Really Need To See This Hot Doctor And His Dog.” The article got so much traction that Dr. Mike would be named “Sexiest Doctor Alive” by People magazine later that year.
Currently boasting an impressive 8.7 million subscribers on Youtube, Varshavski’s channel focuses on debunking medical misinformation, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and reacting to and analyzing television and films for their medical accuracy. Dr. Mike has interviewed some notable names such as Chief Medical Advisor to the President, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and the Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy.
Around the same time that Dr. Mike was featured on Buzzfeed, he started the Limitless Tomorrow Foundation. A non-profit that “aims to help individuals of all backgrounds struggling with financial barriers to reach their unique goals,” according to their bio. The charity works closely with Stand Up 2 Cancer, AmeriCares, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
In 2017, Varshavski gave a Ted Talk called, “The epidemic of the ‘I Know All’ expert.” Where he discusses the dangers of medical and scientific misinformation, and how easily it spreads. Especially under circumstances where people are stressed out.
Dr. Mike was nominated for a Shorty Award for Health and Wellness in 2018, and Breakout YouTuber of the Year in 2019. In 2020, Varshavski won two Webby Awards for Education and Discovery, and Health and Fitness.
Dr. Mike is also an avid boxer. He started training after his mother passed away in 2011. In 2021, he released a video called “Announcing My Career As A YouTube Boxer ft. Ryan Garcia” where he trained with the former lightweight champion, who was impressed with his skills in the squared circle.
Varshavski still practices medicine and is currently a primary care physician at Chatham Family Medicine in Chatham, New Jersey.
