TikTok Will Be Banned In America?

TikTok video search engine is on the rise as more and more Gen Z-ers use it to find things they need online. So what does this mean for the future of social media? And how will Google compete with TikTok? So, let’s look at how the story of TikTok overtaking Google began and why it’s such a significant turning point in tech.

TikTok has quickly become one of the most popular social media platforms, with users spending an average of 52 minutes daily on the app. What makes TikTok so popular? First, it’s a short-form video platform, which means users can consume a lot of content in a short amount of time. Second, TikTok is highly addictive  – once you start watching, it’s hard to stop.

Why is Gen Z on TikTok?

TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to share short videos of themselves. It is popular among Gen Z because it is a fun and easy way to connect with friends and family. In addition, TikTok is overtaking Google as the most popular search engine among Gen Z because its video format is more user-friendly and relevant to their interests.

This generation also grew up on social media, and while correlation does not mean causation, it has a lot of visual learners. TikTok videos are more likely to be shared and liked than traditional text-based searches, making it the preferred choice for this generation.

TikTok started as musical.ly, a karaoke app popular with children and young people. After controversy over the app’s young user base for potential internet predators, the app rebranded as TikTok in 2018 and changed the app to appeal to a broader audience. TikTok has continued to evolve, and its user base has grown exponentially.

A few years later, Google senior vice president Prabhakar Raghavan said google’s analytics show 40% of people aged 18 to 24 prefer using social media like TikTok or Instagram to search for things like places to eat or products to use.

How does it affect you?

If you’re a business owner, staying on top of the latest trends is crucial to reaching your target audience. With TikTok becoming the go-to search engine for Generation Z, it’s vital to have a presence on this platform. If you don’t already have a TikTok account, now is the time to create one. Two tips to help you better market yourself or get started on this social media platform:

1) Know the types of popular videos and how to present them. Include keywords and hashtags in your caption so people can easily find you.

2) Post regularly with similar content and research TikTok’s SEO practices. Create videos that make sense together when posting them back-to-back.

If you’re someone who enjoys using Google, then feel free to keep using it. TikTok may have overtaken Google in traffic, but that doesn’t mean Google’s going anywhere soon. TikTok’s rise in popularity as a search engine outside its video content lane brings some concerns up.

The FCC has issued warnings about TikTok because of its data-mining practices and ties to the Chinese government. The federal government will have to find a way of protecting the app’s US-based users fast if it wants to get ahead of TikTok’s growing users and uses.

Should we worry?

There’s no doubt that TikTok is one of the hottest social media platforms out there, especially among Gen Z. With over 1 billion monthly active users, it’s quickly becoming the go-to place for short-form videos. And since Chinese company ByteDance owns it, there’s been a lot of speculation about what this could mean for users’ data.

The US Government has been looking for ways to protect its citizens’ information from China for some time. However, the average TikTok user has no way of knowing how the app uses their data- and probably no interest. Of course, people want to keep using the app they enjoy, and there’s no shame in that; this issue is why governments exist. With that said, there’s no way of knowing exactly how TikTok manages user data behind the scenes or if China is mining it.

As we increasingly rely on technology, we must be aware of the potential risks. Our data is valuable, and we must be careful with whom it is shared. There are guidelines on protecting your data, but the only way to fully protect yourself is to avoid the app.
