The fun thing about kids is they keep us on our toes. One day they’re obsessed with dinosaurs, and the next day they’re enamored with space. So why should kids be confined to one bland and static pair of glasses? Nathan Kondamuri remembered being forced to wear glasses that he didn’t like as a kid, and he got the normal grade school name-calling treatment as well. Years later as a student at Stanford University, a conversation with his friend Sophia Edelstein was the genesis of PAIR, a company that makes modular glasses for kids. The base frame comes with magnetic, interchangeable tops so kids can change colors when they feel more pink than blue one day. This pair shares their story with Bold TV and reveals their bright vision for the future.
PAIR Glasses Are the Eye-deal Solution
Every great business idea begins when there is a need. Kids are looking at screens so much that it’s estimated that one in two kids will be wearing glasses in the next 10 years. But glasses aren’t always fun for kids and can incite teasing. Glasses can be problematic for parents, too. After the eye examinations, there aren’t typically a plethora of kids’ frame options. This lack of options wouldn’t be as big a deal if the cost wasn’t so high. Kondamuri and Edelstein interviewed more than 500 families and found that parents were paying upward of $300 for a pair of glasses that their child may not like in two weeks. PAIR glasses cost $60, including prescription lenses.
Their Vision for the Future
PAIR is a modern eyewear company. They are entirely e-commerce, which means families can shop for and order glasses online, and the package will arrive on their front doorstep within a week. Parents can send in a photo of the prescription, or PAIR can call the doctor to get the information. They provide the convenience of online shopping, but they’re expanding into retail with doctors, optometrists and ophthalmologists to provide PAIR to local communities as well. Soon adults will be asking for glasses from PAIR!
