Caroline Aaron has been in the film industry for decades now, but only recently has she had one of the most impactful roles of her entire career. You may know her from classic 90’s movies such as Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands, or the Emmy-nominated show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but did you know that she is now taking Amazon Prime Video by storm? Her latest project is Jodi Binstock’s Call Waiting, in which she not only plays one, but two characters! Aaron talks with Bold Life’s Zayna Allen about why this particular role was so moving.
The impact of a true story
Call Waiting is “one of the most impactful things” that Aaron ever has done. This award-winning film originally started out as a stage play, which is written by and based on the personal stories of Dori Fram. To be entrusted with telling another’s personal story is what really impacted Aaron. A non-life-threatening illness consumed Fram’s life, which inevitably led her to be housebound. In order to try to stay as sane as she could, Fram talked on the phone all day. In a world that needs more communication than ever before, Aaron could really relate to her role. Of course, this led to the strong bond that crosses the line between actor and character.
Women and the stories they tell
Aaron goes on to explain that these characters and projects actually mean something to people, specifically women. Going back to her role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, she feels as though this project is like “lightning in a bottle” and is unlike anything she ever has been a part of before. The reason she believes the show is such a hit is because it holds such important ideas and is multigenerational. Make sure to check out Call Waiting and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, both of which are now available on Amazon Prime Video.
