Pew Research Center recently released a report showing that Americans have difficulty distinguishing facts from opinions. Jeffrey Gottfried, Senior Researcher at Pew Research Center, told Bold TV they conducted the study to answer “concerns about whether facts and opinions have become increasingly blurred in today’s news media environment.” Gottfried said the results showed that Americans have “a bit of a challenge with this basic task.” The study also revealed “large differences” among population groups, including political parties and education levels. For example, researchers found “Republicans and Democrats were more likely to classify both factual and opinion statements as factual when they appealed most to their side.” Mairead McArdle, National Review reporter who covered this study, also weighed in.
