When you need a new couch, do you head to the store or your laptop? Most of us shop online, and e-commerce is expected to hit 6.5 billion in the next three years. Bold TV’s Philip Michael was joined by Stefan Georgi, a copywriting expert and mentor, to discuss a new trend: livestream shopping.
Livestream shopping
You might have heard about the trend of livestream or social shopping. It’s like gamers streaming on Twitch but for shopping, and the trend is projected to reach 25 billion in the U.S. by the end of the year. If you don’t have a product to sell, you can jump onto the trend by filming yourself shopping. Georgi says the allure of this idea is the online community around it, more than just the product itself.
You can then post the video on Twitch or any streaming channel; it’s already happening on platforms such as Facebook and Amazon. And you can make a surprising profit: By posting the product links below the video, you can get a commission.
Esports and E-commerce
Like e-commerce, esports involves social aspects – such as streaming – and commercial aspects, including endorsements. Advertisements happen during streams, and there’s an entire in-game economy. Georgi predicts e-commerce will become increasingly gamified as trends such as livestream shopping grow. Everything is going to become more social media influenced and gamified, even down to education and classrooms. The pandemic has resulted in an acceleration of this pre-pandemic trend.
So, next time you shop online, maybe try streaming that experience. Maybe online shopping will be the next big thing.
