TikTok Resumes Are Giving the Job Search a Facelift

It seems that TikTok’s reach has no limits. When quarantine hit back in March of 2020, TikTok exploded with new creators and an all-time high in downloads. In fact, the week that most colleges let out for what they thought would be a short hiatus, TikTok was downloaded over 2 million times. Now, you can even apply to jobs on the app using TikTok Resumes. The new phenomenon allows creators to apply to jobs with a video resume that they post on the app. Do video resumes work?

C-19 and TikTok

Quarantine was a time of TikTok becoming the hub for all things entertainment and infotainment. And it has been the reigning app on the charts for over a year.  Now, TikTok is an employer: Its young audience can enjoy the creator fund, which is a way for TikTok creators to get paid while doing what they love. The app requires a creator to get 100,000 organic views in a matter of a month to be entered into the fund. But this achievement is only the tip of the iceberg: Successful creators can also get sponsorships, get paid for using songs and more

A face to the name

So, with TikTok Resumes making an appearance, the app has become an employer in more ways than one. #TikTokResumes has already garnered over 267 million views, with creators coming up with the most creative ways to convince hiring agents why they should be considered. The videos show creators listing their best qualities and past experiences but with an element that an on-paper resume doesn’t give—a face to the name. Do video resumes work? Chipotle is already hiring. Successful applicants are showing the others on the platform how to write a resume with a facelift.

Making the job search simpler

Unfortunately, social anxiety is at an all-time high after nearly a year of partial or full isolation, but TikTok has been a great outlet for many young people. And with the job market narrowing and in-person events being both a stressor and risk, TikTok resumes could be revolutionary in helping young people on the job hunt.

So, will this new venture be successful? Only time can tell, but for right now, it looks promising.
